Editorial Policy

Fortune telling and traditional calendars are cultures built up over thousands of years. Inside them sit three different things at once: facts verifiable by astronomical observation, folklore transmitted through texts and custom, and popular beliefs modern science has found no support for. Our single most important editorial rule is never to blend those three inside one sentence.

The 24 solar terms, for example, mark the sun's passage through each 15 degrees of the ecliptic — a real astronomical event you can verify by calculation. The racing-animals tale that explains the order of the zodiac, by contrast, is a story invented to make that order memorable, and the claim that your birth year determines your personality is a belief with no demonstrated correlation. All three are worth presenting; what must never be unclear is which one a reader is being asked to accept as fact.

So our guides attach evidence to verifiable claims, mark transmitted stories with language like "it is said," and state plainly when a topic has no evidentiary basis. For widely held but unverified subjects such as blood-type personality theory, we go further and explain why researchers consider it unsupported. We do not write categorical headlines to chase traffic, and we do not present unsupported claims as if they were established.

The results Unse Hanjan produces are not prophecies. They are not an attempt to guess what will happen; they are a prompt to pause and consider how you want to spend the day. The same sentence slides past you on one day and stays with you on another, and that difference comes from the reader's circumstances, not from the sentence. If a fortune has any use, we think it is exactly there — in giving you a moment to look at yourself.

A favourable result is best taken as encouragement to start the day well; a cautionary one, as a nudge to check something twice. A poor result does not mean misfortune is scheduled, and a good one does not mean you can push ahead unprepared.

Language we never use, in any tool

• Asserting that misfortune such as an accident, illness, or death will occur on a specific day
• Recommending talismans, rituals, or paid consultations as a way to ward off bad luck
• Telling readers to base major decisions — medical treatment, investment, contracts, litigation — on a fortune result
• Building anxiety and then steering the reader toward an action that promises to relieve it
• Pressuring users who received a poor result with lines like "leaving this alone is dangerous"

For matters that genuinely shape your life — health, finances, legal questions — please consult a qualified professional in that field. That is also why every result screen carries an entertainment notice. We are not counsellors, and this site cannot stand in for one.

We do not manufacture discrimination

Blood type, zodiac animal, and star sign can be light conversation starters, but the moment they become grounds for sorting or excluding people, they change character. In Japan, the practice of judging people by blood type became common enough to produce the term "bura-hara" (blood-type harassment), and cases of people being disadvantaged in hiring or relationships because of their blood type have been treated as a social problem. It is a clear illustration of how a light-hearted category can harden into real discrimination.

For that reason we never describe any blood type, zodiac animal, or star sign as "bad" or as something to avoid. When a compatibility tool returns a low score, we do not suggest ending the relationship; we describe how the differences might be understood. No tool on this site contains a sentence implying that hiring, evaluation, or dating decisions should be made on the basis of a fortune.

We also avoid generalising about or demeaning people on the basis of gender, region, age, occupation, disability, religion, or sexual orientation. When traditional sources contain passages that are inappropriate by present-day standards, we do not reproduce them verbatim; where a passage needs to be discussed, we explain the period and worldview it belongs to.

Every fortune calculation runs inside your browser. Raw names, full birth dates, and birth years are not sent to or stored on our servers, and no account or login is required. If you email us, however, we receive the address and message so we can respond.

Raw inputs are excluded from the address bar and share links and are not included in Google Analytics or AdSense requests. Non-identifying result selections such as a star sign, zodiac animal, blood type, or card may remain in a share URL. The Privacy Policy describes the separate pseudonymous and aggregated data used for visit and ad measurement.

The calculation itself is deterministic. Fortune lines are chosen by a hash seed built from your input combined with the date, so the same input yields the same result all day and recalculates after midnight. We avoid the reroll pattern — results that change on every refresh — for a clear reason: it invites people to reload until they get an answer they like, and page views gathered that way say nothing about whether the content was worth reading. Randomness is used only for the card-shuffling animation, never for the result.

This site is funded by advertising. It is how we cover domain and infrastructure costs and keep adding content — but the moment advertising erodes trust in the content, the site loses its point. So we hold these lines.

• Ads appear only in slots visually separated from the article body; they are never inserted between sentences of the text.
• No affiliate links, sponsored copy, or product recommendations are mixed into fortune results or guide articles. Every link in the body text points to another page on this site.
• We never write click-bait prompts such as "check the ad below," and we never gate a result behind an ad click.
• We do not slice a result across multiple pages to multiply ad impressions. One submission produces one result on one screen.
• We avoid placements that shift the text or invite accidental taps, and we adjust the slot whenever such a problem is reported.

There are no paid tiers, subscriptions, talismans, or consultations for sale. Every tool is free, and fortune results are never used as bait to move you toward a paid service. Advertising is how the site stays up; it is not what the content is for.

Calculated values and written claims can be wrong. Solar term timings that shift each year, boundary dates in lunar conversion, and years attached to historical facts are especially error-prone. When we are told something is wrong, we work through the following steps.

1. Report — write to the address on the contact page describing which screen showed what, and how it was wrong. A screenshot makes verification much faster.
2. Verify — calculated values are compared against published references such as the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute's announcements; written claims are re-checked against their sources.
3. Fix — once confirmed, we correct the text and the calculation code together. If the calculation logic changed, the methodology page is updated in the same pass.
4. Mark — guide articles display a revision date, and where the substance changed we note in the body what was changed and why.

Even when a report turns out to be a difference of interpretation rather than an error, we reply explaining why the passage was written as it was. If a second look shows the evidence is thin, we remove the sentence or soften the wording. We would rather leave visible traces of being corrected than pretend we got everything right the first time.
