What is the Blood Type Personality & Match tool?
This free tool shows personality profiles for the four ABO blood types and compatibility readings between any two of them. The personality view offers five blocks per type — four keyword chips, an overall portrait, strengths, things to watch, love style, and work style. The compatibility view covers all 4×4=16 pairings, each with its own unique reading, a chemistry score, and one-line summaries of when you click and when you clash. Readings are directional: Type A looking at Type B reads differently from Type B looking at Type A.
Let us be clear up front: blood type personality theory has no scientific basis. Numerous psychology studies have found no meaningful correlation between ABO blood type and personality. Descriptions vague enough to fit anyone feel personally accurate thanks to the Barnum effect — the main reason the theory feels convincing. It became popular in Japan in the 1970s and later spread to Korea, making it a distinctly Korean-Japanese pop culture phenomenon.
Every reading in this tool is therefore entertainment content that organizes the blood type images long circulated in pop culture. Use it as an icebreaker at gatherings or as light conversation material between partners and friends — never as grounds for judging people or deciding relationships.
Key Features
Five-block profiles for each type
Each of A, B, O, and AB comes with four keyword chips plus an overall portrait, strengths, things to watch, love style, and work style — with concrete, situational advice that makes each profile fun to read.
All 16 pairings, all unique
Every one of the 4×4=16 combinations gets its own distinct reading, plus one-line summaries of your best moments together and your friction points — the heart of the relationship at a glance.
Directional readings & chemistry scores
The first blood type is you, the second is them, so A→B reads differently from B→A. The chemistry score is a deterministic number between 60 and 95 — the same pair always gets the same score.
Shareable links, private by design
Share results exactly as you see them via links like ?type=A for profiles or ?a=A&b=O for pairings. Your selections stay inside your browser and are never sent to a server.
How to Use
- Choose the Personality or Compatibility tab. Personality uses one blood type; Compatibility uses two.
- Tap the round badges to select blood types. In the Compatibility view, pick your type and theirs in turn — the result appears instantly.
- Read through the results. Personality flows from keywords to overall portrait, strengths, things to watch, love and work styles; Compatibility shows the chemistry score, the reading, and your click and clash moments.
- Copy the result link with the share button. In the Compatibility view, the swap button instantly shows the reading and score from the other person's point of view.
Great Times to Try It
Icebreaker at gatherings
Comparing blood type profiles at a first meetup or team workshop gets conversation flowing naturally — even just the four keyword chips spark stories.
Conversation starter for couples
Check your pairing in both directions. Nod along at the moments you click, laugh together at the moments you clash — a light way to talk about your differences.
Lunchtime fun with coworkers
Read the work style blocks together and enjoy the 'our manager is SO type O' jokes. Strictly for laughs, of course.
Playful self-reflection
See how well your type's keywords match the real you. There is no science behind it, but sorting through which words fit you makes for a surprisingly fun conversation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there any scientific basis for blood type personality theory?
No. Numerous psychology studies have found no meaningful correlation between ABO blood type and personality. The theory feels convincing mainly because of the Barnum effect — our tendency to accept vague, one-size-fits-all descriptions as personally accurate. This tool organizes the images circulated in pop culture as entertainment content, so please enjoy it purely for fun.
If it has no scientific basis, why is it so popular in Korea and Japan?
Books on the topic became a sensation in Japan in the 1970s, and the idea later spread to Korea through TV and magazines. One often-cited reason it took hold: in Korea and Japan, the population is spread relatively evenly across A, B, O, and AB, so a four-type framework felt natural. Today it survives as light conversation material passed down through generations.
How is the chemistry score calculated?
The pair of blood types is run through a hash function (FNV-1a) and mapped to a value between 60 and 95. It is fully deterministic — the same pair always produces the same score — and has nothing to do with statistics or scientific analysis. A lower score says nothing about your actual relationship.
Why is A→B different from B→A?
Because even between the same two people, the relationship feels different depending on whose eyes you look through. This tool treats the first blood type as 'you' and the second as 'them', with a distinct reading for each of the 16 combinations. The swap button on the result screen shows the opposite direction instantly.
Do you support Rh factor or other blood classifications?
Only the four ABO types (A, B, O, AB) are supported. Rh and other sub-classifications never featured in pop culture blood type lore, so they are not included.
Do the results change from day to day?
No. Personality profiles, compatibility readings, and chemistry scores are independent of the date — the same selection always returns the same result. Save the link and you will see the identical screen whenever you open it.
What if I don't know my blood type?
The most reliable way is a blood test at a clinic or public health center. Donating blood will also tell you your type, and some health checkups include it. Guessing from your parents' blood types is unreliable, since several combinations are usually possible.
Can I share my result with friends?
Yes. The share button copies a link containing your selection — ?type=A for a profile, ?a=A&b=O for a pairing. Anyone who opens the link sees exactly the same result screen, and the link contains nothing beyond the blood types themselves.
