The 24 Solar Terms of 2026

The 24 solar terms mark each 15° step of the sun along the ecliptic. Because they track a real astronomical event, their solar-calendar dates barely move from year to year. The dates below are computed with the Shouxing formula and corrected against the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute's published values.

Tradition holds that on these days the roaming spirit called son ascends to the sky and does not interfere in human affairs, which is why they are still consulted when picking moving and wedding dates. Samjae is a folk belief that each zodiac sign passes through a three-year period of caution once every twelve years. Signs are grouped in trines, so three signs enter it together. It is not a scientifically established concept — treat it as a prompt to start the year carefully rather than a forecast.

How these values are calculated

Where does this data come from?

Nowhere — we compute it. The sexagenary cycle, solar terms, and lunar conversion all run on code written for this site, with no external API calls. That also means nothing here breaks when a third-party service goes down.

How is the day pillar calculated?

The date is converted to a Julian Day Number — a continuous count of days — and then mapped onto the 60-position cycle. We anchor on the recorded fact that 1 October 1949 was a gapja day, so the position is (JDN + 49) mod 60. We verified the anchor against documented dates, including 1 January 2000 landing on muo.

Can a solar term date differ by a day from other sources?

Yes. Solar terms are computed with the Shouxing approximation, which drifts by a day in certain years. We check the results against the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute's published values and keep a correction table for the years that disagree — all 24 terms match for 2025. We do not compute the exact minute a term begins, so please use KASI's announcements when you need official figures.

Why does the year pillar change in January or February?

In Korean four-pillars astrology the year turns at Ipchun (around 4 February), not on 1 January or Lunar New Year. Dates before Ipchun therefore carry the previous year's pillar, and this page applies that rule.

How is an auspicious day determined?

It is any day whose lunar date ends in 9 or 0. Tradition holds that on these days the roaming spirit called son ascends to the sky and leaves human affairs alone. We convert the solar date using a 1900–2050 lunar table and then apply that rule. This is folk belief rather than established fact — treat it as a reference when choosing a moving or wedding date, nothing more.
